Race meetings were recorded in Kojonup as early as 1875. Picnic races were first located at Farrar (5km west of town) and then moved to the current location of Wandecla, which is 30km west of town. The club is unique in that the Kojonup Polo & Polocrosse Club runs the Kojonup Race Club. The Polo & Polocrosse Club itself is now over 70 years old.
The annual race day was originally run as a picnic races but now formally a country race meet. The Kojonup Race Club holds one race meeting each year and it is organised by members of the Kojonup Polo & Polocrosse Club who are all volunteer their time to run the race day. It is a wonderful community event which is well-supported by local businesses, and it now attracts visitors from near and far.
